HOW TO STRAIGHTEN YOUR HAIR
To prepare for styling, wash and condition hair. For those with dry hair or those that use excessive heat frequently, apply deep conditioner to protect hair from further damage and repair dead ends. Gather hair styling tools: large round hair brush, hair clips to separate hair for styling, comb, hair dryer and a high quality straightening iron, check out some highly rated flat irons to find the best flat iron for your hair. For silky, healthy hair, try an Infrashine flat iron or a tourmaline flat iron
Remove excessive water by twisting hair in a towel, avoid rubbing hair in a towel as that will encourage frizz. For fine hair, spray a volumizer to root of hair. For frizzy hair, apply serum or leave in conditioner and comb through with fingers or comb, focusing especially at the ends of hair which may be especially susceptible to high heat.
Now, point the nozzle of the hair dryer downward while rustling the roots of your hair for faster drying. For curly or wavy hair, brush hair in the opposite direction while drying so that the hair lays flat and helps to control frizz while blowing dry. Gently comb hair to detangle and remove any knots in hair.
Next, section the hair into four sections and clip into place and separate the section you’re working on into 3 inch sections, starting on the sides. Use the round brush starting at the root of the hair directing the blow dryer at a 45 degree angle close to the hair, without touching it, while maintaining consistent tension until you reach the ends to ensure even texture of the hair. Then, blast hair with cool air to lock the cuticles in place. Continue working your way down the back and crown by separating hair as if you’re doing pigtails.
Turn on your flat iron and allow it to pre-heat up to 250 degrees, allowing you to straighten but not burn your hair. For those with thicker hair, try using a ceramic flat iron and turning up the heat to 275 degrees and working in smaller sections of into 1 to 2 inch sections to work with. Pull out one section and comb through, then place iron near the base of the hair, using caution to not burn your scalp and slowly inching your way down to the ends. This process may need to be repeated until hair is straight.
